Hello Parents!

I hope everyone is keeping warm on these frigid days! Although it has been too cold to go outside, we have been having a fun time playing in the classroom. Kids are so flexible!

Biography projects are due this Thursday and Friday. Girls will present on Thursday and boys will present on Friday. If you have any questions, please let me know. Please have your student practice "wearing" their people poster and reading their report to you at home.

We are continuing our math unit on time and temperature, as well as adjectives in language.

We are reading Officer Buckle and Gloria and reviewing the skill of cause and effect this week.

Homework:
Due by Friday: Reading and spelling homework, 4 nights of 15 minutes of reading and writing 2 sentences about what you read.
Monday - math facts practice sheets, study spelling words
Tuesday - practice math facts, study spelling words
Wednesday - Girls - biography projects are due tomorrow
Thursday - Boys - biography projects are due tomorrow
Friday - Reading and spelling tests

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Happy 100th day of school to us!
We have had a fun day of learning/celebrating, and to top it off we got out of school early!

Because of the short week, we are not doing our normal weekly story and spelling this week. However, students are responsible for 3 nights of 15 minute reading/writing homework that must be turned in no later than Friday morning.

We will begin our math unit on time and temperature and we will continue learning about adjectives in language.

This Friday, the second grade classes will be having a "Winter Read-In". This is a fun day filled with reading, reading, and more reading! The students will keep a reading log of all the books they read that day, and will also illustrate their favorite book.

For the Read-In, students may bring a sleeping bag or blanket (beach towels also work great!) to school. The students will have to carry their sleeping bags on the bus, so we will not have room for pillows. We are looking forward to a fun day filled with reading!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a wonderful week!

Hello Parents!

I hope each of you enjoyed the beautiful weekend since we are starting off to a soggy week!

We have a lot to cover so here it goes............

On Friday, your child brought home their Biography Project information.  Please help your child choose a famous person
to read about.  They must have a book on or close to their reading level.  They must have their book approved by me no later than this Thursday, January 16th.  They will present their projects on January 30th and 31st.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Your child will have new reading homework starting tonight.  They are required to read 15 minutes Monday - Thursday nights and write 2-3 sentences about what they read.  They have a sheet to fill out in their Take Home Folders.  This sheet will be turned in on Friday mornings.  They will receive one reading grade, based on the completion and accuracy of this homework, each of the remaining 9 weeks.  This is to help with two areas of focus this semester.  One is to build up their reading ability by being able to write about what they read, and secondly to be able to write a compete sentence with correct capitalization and punctuation.  They may use their reading of the weekly story as part of their required 15 minutes.  Directions are included on the sheet.  Again, if you have questions, please let me know.
