Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed the week-end and are ready for a full week of learning!

We are starting this week with our first reading story "Teacher's Pet."
With this story we will examine the story structure - characters, setting,
and plot.  In language we are working on writing complete sentences and
identifying naming and telling parts of sentences.  In spelling we are working
with short -a and -i words patterns.  Your child has their spelling list in the
back pocket of their Take Home folder.  PLEASE leave it in that pocket.
Your child needs to use their list during the week in class.  As long as your
child brings their folder back and forth to school, they will always have
their list at home at night to study.

We are continuing our first unit in math with a focus this week on addition
and subtraction strategies.

In social studies we are exploring maps and globes.

Homework:
Monday - Read and write sentences
Tuesday - Read and write sentences, math
Wednesday - Wed. folders, read
Thursday - Students will bring their reading books home to read from this
week's story and write sentences, math, study spelling words

On Friday we will have our first reading, phonics, and spelling tests.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Monday Everyone 😊

Well we didn't make it outside today, but they enjoyed playing games in the
classroom!

This week we continue to build our reading stamina by practicing our
independent reading.  We made it to 9 minutes today.  Our goal is to be
able to read independently for 20 minutes.  We can do it!

We are starting homework this week.  Your child will have a green
reading sheet in their Take Home folder.  They will need to read for 15 minutes
three nights this week and then write 3 quality sentences about what they
read.  I don't want them to copy sentences from the book.  Just in their
own words tell me what they read.  They can read from any book they
like.

We will have math homework on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week.

Please turn in all blue forms for t-shirts by Wednesday.

Please let me know if I can help your child in any way.

Have a wonderful week!

Welcome to 2nd grade!

I am so excited about this school year!  We have so many fun and exciting things happening in 2nd grade this year, including a wonderful new math program and we get to learn cursive writing!  It is going to be a great year!

Just a little information to get the year started.  We will have a snack in the mornings around 10:30 since our lunch is not until 12:10.  Please keep these snacks simple and easy as we will only have 5 minutes for snack.  Please do not send messy snacks such as fruit cups, pudding, and nuttella.  My suggestions would be fruit, granola bar, crackers, cheese, pretzels, or something similar.

We have P.E. on Thursdays so please make sure your child wears their athletic shoes on this day.

Many of you were not able to take the parent survey during registration night.  There is a link on the ILE website if you would please take a few minutes to complete this it would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to a fantastic year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Happy Monday!

This week we started our novel study of Stone Fox and will be reading and working
from this novel for the next two weeks.  Our spelling pattern is -ai, -ay, -igh, and -y.
Since we are having Field Day on Friday, the spelling test will be on Thursday.
We will be reviewing in language and will continue working on multiplication this
week.

Tomorrow is our "Read In" in the library.  Students may bring blankets and stuffed
animals to take to the library during related arts tomorrow.  Please make sure that
your child can handle carrying anything they bring.  My suggestion is that it fit in
their backpacks.

Friday is FIELD DAY!  Please send a water bottle with your child's name on it to
carry with us while we are playing the games.  It is going to be hot and sunny on
Friday.  I would also suggest putting sunscreen on your child BEFORE they come to
school.  We will have a picnic style lunch outside so please send a towel that your
child can sit on during lunch.  I would love to have some parents help with field
day.  If you have never come before, we walk from game to game and the directions
for the game are there for the adults to explain to the children.

Homework:
Monday - math worksheet
Tuesday - Read for 20 minutes
Wednesday - Wed. folder, study spelling words
Thursday - Read for 20 minutes

If you have any questions, please let me know.

This week we are reading from our science books about the Sun, Moon, and

We will not have a reading test this Friday like normal since we are using our

However, we will have our spelling and phonics test on Friday.

If you haven't turned in your blue registration form, please turn it in no later

a note to the registration form and send it in as well.

about routines!  I hope you enjoyed your time with your kiddos!
