Welcome Back!

This week is a continuation of last week since we had all those
snow days!  We are continuing with our reading of "Two Famous
Presidents" as well as our spelling words with the long e sound
using -y.  We will have our tests over these on Friday.  Our language
test over adjectives will be next Tuesday.  In math we are learning
place value up to 1000.

This Friday we will have our "Winter Read-in" after we have completed
our tests.  Students may bring a blanket or sleeping bag to snuggle up in
and read some good books!  They can bring some books from home
to read, as well as reading from our classroom library.  They will
also be allowed to take AR tests during this time.  We will have
some fun reading activities to do as well.

Homework:
Wednesday - Math, Study spelling words
Thursday - Read "Two Famous Presidents" and study spelling

Have a fantastic week!

Welcome Back!

Wow!  What a week!  I hope you are all rested and ready
for a four day weekend!

Today your child will bring home their Wednesday folders.  In there
you will find their progress report.  There are two copies in the
envelope.  Please sign one of them and return it next Wednesday
in the envelope.  The other copy is for you to keep.

Next week we will continue with the lessons that were missed
this week due to snow.  So the spelling and reading tests will
be next week.  The language test I will push to the following
Monday.

At this time we will still plan to have our Winter Read-In
next Friday.

I still have a few spots open if you need to schedule a
conference for Tuesday.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Monday!

For the next month our schedule is changing somewhat to
accommodate the 3-5 grade testing schedule.  That means
that our related arts time will be from 10:30-11:15 instead
of in the afternoon.  We will now have part of our math in the
afternoon.

Parent teacher conferences are Tuesday, February 16th.  I still
have a few open times if you need to schedule a meeting.

On Friday we will exchange Valentine's with our classmates.
Please send in your child's Valentine box and cards Friday
morning.  This is not a party.  We will be passing them out
as time allows throughout the day.

This week we are reading a passage "Two Famous Presidents" and
we will compare and contrast these two men.  Our spelling words
have the long e sound using the letter y.  We will finish our unit
on adjectives with a test on Friday.  In math we are learning place
value to 1000.

Homework:
Monday:  Math, Read 15 minutes and write 3 sentences
Tuesday:  Read 15 minutes and write 3 sentences
Wednesday:  Wed. folders, math, read 15 minutes
Thursday:  Study spelling words, read
Friday:  Math (if not completed in class)

Dear Parents,

This week we are reading a non-fiction story, Super Storms.   We will
focus on identifying the main idea and details of the passage.  In
language we continue our unit on adjectives, and in spelling our
words have the long i sound using igh, i, ie, and y.  In math we
are looking at arrays and how repeated addition relates to \
multiplication.

Thursday is our PTO performance.  I look forward to seeing
a grand show and hope to see you there as well.

Homework:  This week I would like students to get on I-ready
for reading two nights for 15 minutes each.  I will allow you
to choose which two nights works best for your schedule as
long as it is completed by Friday morning.
Monday:  Math, I-ready for reading
Tuesday: Math, I-ready for reading
Wednesday: Wed. folders, I-ready for reading

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off this week!  The students are all
buzzing about the chance of seeing snow tomorrow.  I think there will
be lots of ice cubes flushed and pajamas worn inside out tonight!

This week we are reading from our science books about weather and
seasons.  We have started our unit on adjectives in language and our
spelling words have the endings -ed and -ing.  Because it is a short
week (and possibly shorter than planned), we will not have a spelling
test this week.  We will work with these words for the next two weeks
and will test on January 29th.  Also, there will not be a reading test this
week or next.

In math we are continuing our unit on measurement.  This will be concluded
this week or next if the weather prevents us from coming to school.

Please remember that biography projects will be presented next
week as follows:  Student #1-8 on Tuesday, Jan. 26
Student #9-17 on Wednesday, Jan. 27
Student #18-25 on Thursday, Jan. 28
Students should not bring in their "People Poster" until the day of
their presentation.

Please remember that we have snack every day.  With our lunch being after
12:00, students are VERY hungry by 10:30.  They need something nutritious
to get them through until lunch time.  Please do not send candy for a snack.

Homework:  Reading homework all week is to work on the biography project.
Tuesday:  Math
Wednesday:  Wed. folders, math

I hope you have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Kane

Happy Monday!

This week are continuing our study of biographies with The Dog That Dug
for Dinosaurs.  We will wrap up our unit on verbs with a test on Wednesday.
Our spelling words this week are compound words.  In math, we continue
our study of measurement.

Please remember all biographies for the biography project must be
approved by me no later than Wednesday.  Your child should bring in the
book they want to read for my approval.  Remember the goal of this
project is for the student to READ the biography.  I do not want them
going to the internet for information about their person.

There will be no pictures taken tomorrow as indicated on the school
calendar.   We will be taking yearbook pictures on Friday.  There is a
green paper coming home in your child's folder with more information.

Homework:  I will not assign more reading homework while students
are working on their biography projects.  That is their reading homework.
Monday:  math
Tuesday: Review language study guide for test on Wednesday
Wednesday: Wed. folders, math
Thursday:  Read The Dog That Dug for Dinosaurs, study spelling words

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Kane
