Hello Parents,

What a beautiful day start our week!  We thoroughly enjoyed
recess today!

This week we are reading from our science books about matter!
Our spelling words have the prefixes re- and un-.  In language
we are writing to make our sentences come to life!  Math is
all about geometry!

For a math activity that is coming up we need a few paper towel
cardboard tubes or toilet paper tubes.  Each student will need
a 4 inch section.  If you can send those in over the next week
that would be very helpful!

Also, does anyone have a die-cut machine that would be willing
and able to cut paper for a math lesson that is coming up in a
couple of weeks?

Homework:
Monday - Wednesday - Read for 15 minutes and write a paragraph
in your reading journal.
Wednesday - Wed. folders
Thursday - Study spelling words and read from science book

Have a wonderful week everyone!

If you would like to purchase school pictures or Field Day t-shirts,
this is the week to do it!  You child is bringing home information
in their Take Home folders to day about both.

This week we are reading Dex: Heart of a Hero.  The skill we will
focus on is comparing and contrasting.  Our spelling words have
the suffixes -y, -ly, and -ful.  In language we are focusing on
narrative writing.  We will continue our geometry unit in math.

Homework:
Monday - Wednesday:  Read for 15 minutes and write a paragraph
each night in their reading journal.  Turn the reading journal in on Thursday.

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone enjoyed their week of Spring Break!  Now it is time
to finish this year strong and get these kiddos ready for 3rd grade!

Students are bringing home their school picture proofs in their
take home folders.  If you would like to purchase pictures, please
return the order form this week.

This week we are reading a story "My Name is Gabriella."  This is a
story about a teacher and a poet.  We will be writing some of our
own poetry this week!  Our spelling words are homophones.  In math
we continue our unit on geometry.

Our homework this week will consist of reading and writing
about what we read in our new reading journals.  Students
should read each night Monday - Wednesday and then write
about what they read in their journals.  They can retell what
they read, tell me something funny they read, did they learn
something new, did what they read remind them something
that happened to themselves or something they read about
in another book.  They should have the date and the title of
what they read at the top of the page.  They can use 1 page
per entry to write a paragraph consisting of at least 5 sentences.
These will be turned in on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, they will read this week's story and study their
spelling words.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Happy Spring Everyone!

This week we will not have a reading or spelling test.
We will wrap up our unit on adverbs with a test tomorrow
and will begin our focus writing for this quarter which
is narrative writing.  In math we will continue our unit
in geometry.

The only homework I am asking of the students this
week is to read for 15 minutes each night.

I hope everyone enjoys their spring break.  When we come
back we will only have eight weeks of school left!  How did
that happen???

Have a wonderful night,
Mrs. Kane

It was so good to see so many of you on Saturday for the Pow Wow!
Thank you for coming out in support of our wonderful school.  We
couldn't do it without you.

must preorder and prepay for it.  The form is coming home in your
child's take home folder.

There will be no reading or spelling tests this week since we are

working on our Market Day preparations after our assessments,
as well as math.

In math we are working on extending patterns.  Later this week we
will begin our unit in geometry.

Most students were able to finish their math homework in class today.
They will only bring it home if they didn't complete it.

Hello Parents!

I just wanted to thank everyone who has volunteered to bring
in drinks and baked goods and volunteer your time on Saturday!
The Pow Wow is always a lot of fun for everyone.

I also wanted to bring your attention to some very special auction
items that will be available on Saturday.  First, Ms. Nutter (Riley's Mom)
took a very special picture of our class today that you will not want
to miss!  Also, the second grade teachers host a pool party after
school gets out, June 9th from 6-8 pm.  We provide pizza and
and other goodies.  It is always a good time!

See you soon!

I am so excited about the Pow Wow this Saturday!  I look forward to
seeing all of you there.  Thank you so much for volunteering your time
to help our school!

Looking ahead:  Next week we will be giving the Quarterly Assessments
to our students.  Please make sure your child gets a good nights sleep
and a good breakfast each day next week!

This week we are starting our economics unit called Market Day.  This
will be a fun experience for everyone.  While learning about goods,
services, producers, consumers, bartering, trading, taxes, and budgets
students will have the opportunity to have their own business right here in
class.  They will decide if they are going to provide a good or a service
and whether they want to work alone or with a partner.  You will receive
a letter in your child's folder today that will help explain. Our Market Day
will be on Friday, March 18th!

We are reading from our Social Studies book this week to go along
with our Market Day unit. In language we continue our unit
