Dear Parents,

This week we are working on reading skills using our "Scholastic News"
magazines.  We will learn about text features, citing text evidence,
and comparing and contrasting.  Our spelling words have the endings
-ed and -ing.  In language we are learning to use the dictionary.  Some
students didn't finish the worksheet on guide words in the dictionary
and have it in their take home folders to complete as homework.

In math we are solving and creating our own story problems.  We had
a great time creating the pictures to go with our problems!

We are our of school tomorrow for election day.

Our class will visit the book fair Thursday morning and Friday
after lunch.  You can send money on either of these days for
your child to shop.

Thanksgiving lunch is Friday at 12:30.

Pennies Wars has begun to support United Way.  If you would
like to participate, students can bring in money this week.  The class
with the most money collected will win a pizza or donut party and
30 minutes extra recess.  The 2nd place class will win a pizza or
donut party.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Halloween!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Halloween party
so much fun Friday!  It was a great day!

This week we are looking forward to our field trip to Traveler's Rest
on Wednesday.  Please have your child wear their GREEN ILE
field trip shirts.  These came home last week.  We will also
have a picnic lunch.  Make sure they bring their sack lunch and
a small towel to sit on.  Please send their lunches in a sack or
large Ziploc bag with their names on them.  Drinks should also
be in disposable bottles, pouches, or boxes.

This week we are reading Officer Buckle and Gloria. We will practice
asking and answering questions such as who, what, when, how, and
where pertaining to the story.  We will also practice understanding
how a character responds to major events in a story, as well as,
describing the story structure (beginning, middle, end) and why
it is important.

In language we continue working on plural nouns.  Our spelling
words this week have the sh, th, tch, ch, and wh.  Everyone
will have basic words this week.

In math, we are working on using a number line to add and
subtract two digit numbers as well as story problems.

Please remember it is recommended that students read each
night become better readers.

Have a wonderful week!

Hello Everyone,

What a beautiful day we have had to start our week!

This week we will continue reading from our science books about
animal habitats and will be looking at text features.  This week
we are learning about water habitats.  In language we will continue
our work on plural nouns, and in spelling our spelling pattern
is double consonants and -ck.

In math we are concentrating on skip jumping using 1's, 5's, and 10's.
We will also look at a large collection of craft sticks and regroup
them into hundreds, tens, and ones using the splitting strategy
(first adding the tens, then the ones, and then adding the tens and
ones to get the total.)

This is Red Ribbon week (drug education.)  Our remaining themes
are as follows:
Tues: wear bright or mismatched socks "Sock it to drugs"\
Wed: team sports clothing "Team up against alcohol"
Thurs: wear red "Red Ribbon Week"
Fri: dress up during the fall parade "Say BOO to tobacco"

Our fall parade is Friday.  Students may bring a costume to
change into in the afternoon for the parade.  The parade
begins at 2:00 and our party will follow.  We hope you can
come and see us all dressed up!

If your child didn't finish their math work in class today, they
will have it in their Take Home folder to complete and return
tomorrow.

Also, if you would like to order any of your child's "Art to Remember"
and benefit the art department, the orders are due by
Wednesday, Oct. 26th.

Have a wonderful week!

take home folder to complete as homework.
Our spelling pattern this week is words with final blends.
While in language we will begin working on plural nouns.

In math we will work on repeated addition using arrays
and adding on a number line using skip jumps of 1, 5, and
10.

Please remember to send in your Warrior Walk pledges by
tomorrow.

Field trip money and paperwork is due tomorrow as well.

If you haven't already, please sign and return your child's
report card and Wednesday folder that were given out
at conferences.  If you didn't attend conferences, your child
is bringing home their report card today.  Please sign and return
it tomorrow.

ILE is helping HHS collect can food for those in need.  You can
send in can goods this week.  There is a box outside our door
for the collection.

Dear Parents,

Today was a very exciting day in 2nd grade.  We released our
butterflies!  I have pictures that I will post to Dojo as soon
as I can.

This week we are reading Click, Clack, Moo and will discuss
the importance of the beginning, middle, and ending of
the story.  Our spelling words have consonant blends using
r, l, and s.  In language we will learn about plural nouns and
types of sentences.

In math we continue our work on measuring using non-standard
units, as well as understanding place value.

This Friday is the Warrior Walk!  We will walk from 1:25-1:55.
You are welcome to come cheer us on!

Don't forget to send in your form to request a parent teacher
conference.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are reading a folktale How Chipmunk Got His
Stripes. and  will work on the reading skill understanding
characters.  Our spelling words have the long o and u
spelling pattern.  In language we continue to work on knowing
the difference between a common and a proper noun and writing
complete sentences.

This week in math we are working on understanding place value.
Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding that
the digits in a 3-digit number represent amounts of hundreds,
tens, and ones. We will also practice finding the total number of objects
in an array using addition, as well as, measuring objects using
non-standard units (unifix cubes).

Next Friday, September 30th, is Warrior Walk.  I hope you can come
to cheer us on!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
