Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are beginning our social studies unit on economics.  We will be learning about goods and services, supply and demand, needs vs wants, saving and spending, and income and taxes! Students were able to get with their partners (if they want to work with a partner) and brainstorm ideas for the good or service they want to do for Market Day.  Wednesday I will approve ideas and then they will come home for your approval.  Please do not feel like you have to spend money on this project.  There are plenty of ideas they can do for little or no cost at all.

Our spelling words this week have the -ge and -dge spelling pattern.  In math we started our unit on measurement, data and multi-digit computation with marble rolls.  If you haven't already, jump on Dojo and see the pictures I posted today.  They are having so much fun!

Looking ahead to next week we have field day on Friday, May 11th.  We would love for you to come join us.  More information will be coming home next week.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are preparing for our writing assessment for our report cards, which we will take on Friday.  Students will be reading two articles and writing a complete paragraph about what they learned.  Our spelling words this week are homophones.  In math we are adding and subtracting within 1000.

Next week we will begin our Economics unit in social studies.  I look forward to this unit every year.  The kids have so much fun and they learn a lot too!  The culmination of this unit is Market Day.  This is a day where students will provide a service or make a good to sell.  Students will use "money" they have earned to shop during Market Day.  I will send more information home next week.

Please return all signed progress reports tomorrow and any blue registration cards by Friday.

Have a wonderful week!

Welcome Back!

This week we are comparing two versions of the same fairy tale - Cinderella.  We are reading Yeh-Shen, from China, and The Egyptian Cinderella from Egypt!  We will be looking at the point of view of the characters.  We will practice using our dictionary skills to look up unfamiliar words and we will practice using adjectives in our sentences.  Our spelling pattern this week is ai, at, igh, and y.

In math we are measuring with centimeters and learning about fractions.

Friday is our next Focus Friday.  Please wear the color brown!  We will be talking about how to have balance in our lives.

Please start saving/sending in cardboard tubes from toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, or wrapping paper rolls.  We will need as many as we can get by the end of the month!

Have a wonderful week!

Dear Parents,

This week we will not have a spelling test.  In language we will be learning the difference between possessive nouns and plural nouns.  We will also look at the difference between possessive nouns and contractions.  Both of these can be confusing for second graders.

We will continue to learn about point of view by reading The Threee Little Pigs  and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. One story is from the pigs' prospective and the other is from the wolf's.

In math we will continue our unit on measuring with centimeters and working with fractions.

Remember that spring break starts Friday!

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Monday Parents!

It was so good to see so many of you Saturday having fun at the Pow Wow.  I think it was the best one yet!

Today we started our quarterly writing assessment.  This quarter we are writing our opinions.  The writing process takes several days, and we will take it step by step.  Our spelling pattern this week is 3 letter blends. We will also begin learning about possessive nouns.  Today we took our Unit 6 math test over geometry.  We will continue this unit with a few more geometry activities this week.  We also planted pea and corn seeds today.  We will be measuring their growth in the weeks to come!

Just a reminder that the 2nd grade performance will be Thursday, March 15th at 7:00p.m.  More information will be coming about that soon!

Have a great week!

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

This week we are presenting our biography projects on Wednesday and Thursday.  We will be reviewing proper nouns in language.  In math we will continue our unit in geometry by looking at the area of shapes.

Class pictures will be taken on Thursday.  Please remember these must be pre-ordered.  Individual pictures will still be ordered using a proof.

Friday 2nd grade will have our annual Winter Read In during our reading block! (normally it still feels like winter in the middle of February)  Students can bring books from home (if they want) and a small blanket or towel to sit/lay on and we will read, read, read!  This is not a pajama day.  It is just a fun time to enjoy reading!

Have a wonderful week!
