Dear Parents,
We are having a wonderful time learning about other countries this week! The only homework this week is to complete
the Holiday Around the World project. Girls will make their presentation on Wednesday, and boys will make their presentation on Thursday. Please let your child practice their oral presentation at home in front of you or other family members. They always enjoy doing this and they learn so much about the world around them!
Friday we will have our party starting at 10:30 with dismissal at 11:30.
Can you feel the excitement in the air? I can!
Have a great week!

Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday as much as I did! It sounds like you did based on what I heard from the children!
We have a red container outside our classroom to place items for our Adopt-a-family. If you are able to make a donation, please send it in by Friday. If you have questions about what is needed, please email Aimee Fuqua at aimeefuqua@comcast.net. Thank you for any donation you are able to make.
This is the last week we will have a reading story/test and spelling words for this nine weeks. After this week, Second Grade will start our Holidays Around the World unit during our normal reading time. We will be learning about how other countries celebrate holidays. This is always a lot of fun for the students. Tomrrow your student will pick a country to do a report on. If your family has a personal connection to a country, and your child would like to report on that country, please let me know by tomorrow so I can reserve that country for your child. I will be sending home more information about this tomorrow.
This week:
Monday - homework math facts 9's and 10's, study spelling words, reading and spelling homework due by Friday.
Tuesday - Thursday: study spelling words and math facts, reading and spelling homework due by Friday.
Looking ahead.....early next week we will have a topic test in math over subtracting with regrouping and a unit test in language over verbs.

Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. We had a beautiful day to start off our new week! It was wonderful to go
outside for recess today :)
We are wrapping up Topic 8 in math, adding two digit numbers with regrouping. It was called "carrying" when I was in school! We will have our test on Wednesday. Your student has their study guide in their take home folder today. This is due by Wednesday.
You can give your child extra practice by having them add two digit numbers that they will and won't have to regroup or "carry" -
54+18= ?, 21+15=?, etc. Next we will start subtraction with regrouping, or "borrowing" as it was called when I was in school.
Subtraction is a big concept for second grade!
I have heard from several students that they are having trouble pulling up the Journeys book online. If you would prefer your
child to bring their book home, we can do that - just let me or your child know.
Homework this week:
Monday - Thursday: math facts practice due Tuesday, study spelling words, math study guide due by Wednesday, reading and spelling homework due by Friday
Wednesday - math addition with regrouping test
Friday - reading and spelling tests
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Have a wonderful week!

Hello Parents!

We are off t0 another great start this week.  Everyone is starting to get settled in to our daily routines.

This week in math we will continue with understanding addition and subtraction.  You will see the worksheets that we have been working on come home in their Wednesday folders.  You can help your student by having them practice math facts, both adding and subtracting to 20.  We will wrap up this topic and be looking at our first test early next week.

During reading, we are learning how to "Read to Self" and building our stamina so that we are able to read for 20 minutes at a time.  That may not seem like a lot, but for a 2nd grader that is huge!  The more they read, the better reader they will become.

In language we are focusing on writing complete sentences and in spelling we are working on phonemic awareness strategies.

Please remember that the class book project is due on Friday, but your student can turn it in earlier if they finish.

Next week we will begin our new reading series.  I am very excited!

I hope everyone has a great week.
