Dear Parents,

This week we are reading two versions of Cinderella.  One is from China and the other is from Egypt.  We will be compare and contrast the stories.  We are reviewing adverbs and how they help us write better sentences.  Our spelling pattern is over long e using the letter y.  Students have been trying to beef up their writing, and I hope to see more Super Sentences on the spelling test Friday!

In math we are beginning unit 7 and will be measuring, learning about fractions, and adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers.

Tomorrow we go to the book fair to shop.  Today you child previewed the books they would like to purchase.  Their list and the total for that list is in their Wednesday folder.  Please send any money you would like for them to spend at the book fair tomorrow.  The book fair will also be open until 6:00 pm tomorrow if you would like to come after school to shop with your child.

Permission slips and information about our field trip are also in their Wednesday folders.  All money must be turned in by April 8th.

Have a wonderful week!

Dear Parents,

This week it's all things POW WOW!

First, I need volunteers to fill two open slots of the ring a pop game that we are responsible for. We need a volunteer for 12:30-1:30 and 1:30-2:30.  Please email aimeegingerich@yahoo.com asap to lend a helping hand!  It is my understanding from the PTO that there will be plenty of high school students on hand to help.  We just need to provide the adult supervision.  It is so important that we have these slot filled!

Friday is the last day to buy presale tickets and wristbands.  These will be sent home with your child on Friday afternoon.  If for some reason your child is not at school on Friday, they will have them at the ticket booth waiting on you Saturday.

Friday is the last day to Raise an Arrow for ILE.  When you raise an Arrow to support our school, your child has a chance to win one of three really big prizes - Pac Man arcade game, hoverboard, or gokart!

Lastly, during the auction at the POW WOW dinner you will have a chance to bid on teacher experiences.  This year the second grade teachers will host a swimming party for 15 second graders.  There will be swimming, pizza, drinks, and dessert! If you are not coming to the dinner, you can have someone bid for you.

I look forward to seeing you at the Pow Wow on Saturday!

Dear Parents,

On Monday we will begin writing our papers in class for our biography project.  Students need to have their books read and the questions answered and brought to class on Monday.  We have had time each day to work on this and some are finished with this part of the project.  Some are bringing home the books and questions to finish this up over the weekend.  If your child has their book and questions at home, PLEASE help them remember to complete them and bring them on Monday!

If your child is making the people poster for their presentation, you can keep the picture at home for reference.

What I love most about this project is that afterwards, most students get really excited about reading biographies!

Thank you for your help and have a wonderful weekend!

Hello All -

This week we will continue reading Dex Heart of a Hero and practice identifying how characters respond to major events in a story.  Our spelling pattern this week is long o using -oa, -ow, and -o. We will look at the shades of meaning between different adjectives and verbs (fast, swift, rapid).

We are reading our biographies in class and answering the questions about our person.  Please help your child remember to bring their book and questions to school if they have not already.  The people posters will be due on the date your child presents their report - boys on Feb. 20th and girls on Feb. 21st

We are beginning our unit on geometry.  This is always a fun unit.  Students love to learn about shapes!  In science we continue our unit on the Earth's surface and will be looking at bodies of water.

Looking ahead to next week we will have spring and class pictures taken on Friday, February 15th.  Class pictures must be preordered, but you will be able to order individuals from proofs.

On Thursday, February 14th we will exchange Valentines with each other.  Information and a class list came home on Friday.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Monday!

This week we are reading "Dex Heart of a Hero" and learning how characters respond to major events or challenges in the story.  We are continuing learning to use a dictionary and we will practice using context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.  We will have a spelling test on Friday.  Our spelling pattern this week is long e using -ee and -ea.

Tomorrow we will have our next math test.  Today we did the pretest and went over it in class to prepare for the test.  The pretest is in your child's take home folder if you would like to review it with them.  The pretest is VERY similar to the actual test.

We will be doing a biography project and the information is in your child's take home folder today.  Your child will need to get a biography on their approximate reading level to read and complete a report.  The book must be approved by me no later than next Monday. Books can be from the classroom library, the school library, public library, or you may already have one at home.  Do not feel like you have to purchase one.  An optional portion of the project, a people poster, can be completed at home.  Students love this part, so I hope you will encourage them to do this.  There are pictures attached to the information being sent home.

Tomorrow I will be sending home parent teacher conference forms to be filled out and returned by Friday.

Information was sent home about the POW WOW dinner a couple of weeks ago.  If you would like to attend the dinner, please send in your registration form and money by February 15th. The POW WOW festival will be Saturday, February 23rd.  I hope you to see you all there!

Have a wonderful week!

Happy New Year!

I had a wonderful break and I hop you did too!  But, I am ready to get back to my routine!

This week we are reading a wonderful story, Akiak, about a dog that runs the Iditarod Dog Sled Race.  We will be looking at facts and opinions and learning about possessive nouns.  We will not have a spelling test this week, but will begin again next week.

In our new unit in math we will be looking at place value to one thousand.  The unit overview will come home in Wednesday folders.  Please take a look at it to see what your child will be learning.  You may want to hold on to this so that you can help your child if they have questions while they are at home.

This Friday is our next Focus Friday.  We will be learning about commitment.  Please help your child remember to wear green on Friday!

Report cards will come home in Wednesday folders this week.
