Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are reviewing long and short vowels during phonics.  We will start having spelling test NEXT week.  In language we are reviewing nouns and learning about collective nouns, such as a flock of birds or a herd of cows.  We began reading Arthur's Back to School Day.  We will be asking and answering questions from the story and will determine the meaning of words based on context clues.

In math we are working on adding and subtracting strategies. While in social studies we are studying maps and globes and learning about continents and oceans.

Just a reminder that students should not be bringing toys to school unless there is a special day set aside for this.  If that is the case, I will communicate it with you.

Please check your child's folder nightly for unfinished classwork that needs to be finished.  It will be on the "return to school" side of the folder.

Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are finishing up learning about the 7 habits of happy kids.  This goes along with the book by the same title by Sean Covey.  We are learning how to be responsible for ourselves and how to treat others!

Today we began our review of writing complete sentences.  As a second grader they should be able to write at least 7-8 complete sentences at this time. We do a lot of writing and they will need to build their stamina for writing just like we are practicing for reading.

In math we are adding and subtracting to 20 and we are working on learning am and pm with the clock.

Tonight is open house from 6:00-7:00.  This is for parents only.  While you are here, Mrs. Mitchell would appreciate you taking a few minutes to take a survey for the county.  I will have this pulled up on my student computers.  It only takes a few minutes. My room will be available at 5:45 if you would like to come early to take the survey. We will have information about several clubs that will be offered this year.

If you would like to sign up for the school's text blast (Remind text)  please text 81010 and in the body of the message type @ilep .   We use this to get information out to parents in a timely manner.

Happy Monday Everyone!

We were so busy today that is went by so fast!  It was a great day.  I just wanted to remind everyone that we do have a snack in the mornings around 9:30.  Please send a healthy 

(not messy) snack with your child.  They do get very hungry before lunch at 12:25.

If you sent scissors with your child as a supply, I have asked them to bring them home.  We have a class set that will be passed out when we need them.  

Your child brought home their take home folder today.  Inside you will find information about joining Classdojo.  I do use this to post pictures of what is going on in the classroom!

Next Monday, Aug. 13th is Parent Night from 6-7 where I will go over information about second grade and our class.

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying their last days of summer break!  I think we are all thinking - where did summer go?!

Here are a few things I want to cover about second grade before next week.

*We have PE on Mondays so please have your child wear athletic shoes on Monday! Also, we have related arts first thing in the morning so please send your child to school in their athletic shoes as we will not have time to change shoes.

*We have lunch at 12:25 and we get hungry way before that!  We will have snack every day at 9:30.  Please have your child bring a quick snack and water to have at that time.  These snacks should be healthy in nature and not messy.  I will go over this more at open house.

*If you have a change in the way your child will go home, you need to contact the office to inform them.  I would ask that you also email me with that change.

*Open house is Monday, August 13th from 6-7.  I hope you are able to come.
