Happy Monday Everyone!

This week we are reading Officer Buckle and Gloria and will focus on how characters respond to certain events in the story.  In language we are learning about the differences in the meanings of synonyms (small, tiny, little) and we also continue to use adjectives and proper nouns correctly in sentences. Our spelling words this week our compound words.

In math we are using money to add two and three digit numbers and writing equations to match word problems.  We will finish up this unit in math this week and will have our unit test next Monday.

I will send home an information packet about the biography project will be coming home tomorrow.  Please be helping your child decide whose biography they would like to read and helping them find a book. They will be able to look at the biographies in the school library this Thursday.

Save the date!  Please see the attachment regarding the Sweetheart Social sponsored by the PTO.  More information to come!

Welcome Back!

Wow!  Who would have believed we would have used 7 snow days half way into January?!

This week we are reading a fun story Dex: The Heart of a Super Hero.  We will be looking at how the characters respond to different events that happen in the story.  In language we will be learning to use dictionaries.  Our spelling words have the suffixes -ly and -ful.  We will all have the same spelling list this week due to taking the last spelling test today.

In math we are working with 3 digit numbers, word problems, and practicing telling time.

We will begin our unit on biographies in a couple of weeks.  Students will need to have a biography to read for this unit.  They will be learning about a famous person through their reading and will present what they learned to the class.  Their is an optional people poster that can be done at home if they would like.  More information will be coming home about that soon.  For now, please help your child select a biography to read.  This may be a book you already have at home, one you may purchase, or borrow from the library.  Students will have an opportunity to look for biographies at the school library in the coming weeks.

Have a wonderful week!

Happy New Year!

I am so happy to be back in the classroom with my kiddos!  It sounds like everyone had a wonderful break!

This week during ELA we will focus on writing an opinion paper.  We will also learn about proper nouns and our spelling words this week are 2-syllable words with long vowels.

We began our next unit in math where we will be working with numbers to 1000.

This Friday is our next Focus Friday.  We will learn about commitment.  Everyone please wear GREEN.  We have won the participation trophy two months in a row!  Could we make it three?

Report cards will come home on Friday.

January's calendar indicates that 2nd grade will have a performance on the 18th.  This has been moved to March.

Have a wonderful week!
