Dear Parents,

This week we will focus on learning about holidays and customs from countries around the world.  There will not be a spelling test this week.  We will be reviewing spelling patterns and language skills.  We will wrap up unit 4 tomorrow with our test.

Please turn in any reading logs for the "Donut Forget to Read"  reading challenge by Wednesday.  I will send a note home with those students that meet the challenge.  We will have donuts and milk Friday morning before school.

Next week we will have the Holidays Around the World presentations.  The girls will present on Monday and the boys will present on Tuesday.  Please have them practice with you at home so they are comfortable talking about what they learned!  This is definitely a high light of second grade!

Have a wonderful week!

Hello Parents!

This week we are reading two very interesting stories, A New Coat For Anna and A Starry Messenger.  We will practice reading skills such as summarizing and picking out key details from the stories.  We will continue to practice writing complete sentences and our spelling pattern this week is contractions.  When you are helping your child practice their spelling words, please know that it is very important that they put the apostrophe in the correct spot. Otherwise, it is incorrect.

During math we will continue to practice using inches, feet, and yards.  We will have our next unit test next week.  I will be sending home the practice test on Thursday to be completed and returned no later than Monday.

In preparation for beginning cursive writing next week, I will be sending home practice manuscript papers tomorrow.  Please have your child practice their handwriting by completing at least one page each night.

Next week second grade will also begin our unit on Holidays around the world.  Each day we will learn about a different country and explore their traditions and customs.  In conjunction with this unit, students can research a country on their own and present what they learned to the class.  This is an optional activity, but one I hope you will encourage your child to participate in.  The information about the project came home in take home folders today.  Only one student and present on a country.  Please turn in the green paper as soon as possible to reserve your country.  I will return the green paper to you.  In class we will learn about America, Mexico, England, Germany, and Sweden.  Please choose countries other than these.

Have a wonderful week!
